Teaching Your Parrot With Tricks

One of the best things about keeping a parrot is that you can actually teach them tricks which they can use to amuse and delight you. As an owner, you must learn this tricks, starting from the basic ones to the complex commands. Of course, if you are a beginner yourself, you need to know the commands and the tips on how to teach your parrot how to do this and that. If you are able to successfully inculcate to your parrot these tricks, then you can be proud of yourself as well as your bird.

The first thing that you need to assure is that the species of parrot that you have is already tamed and is breed well to obey commands. Unless so, you will be having a hard time teaching them tricks. Beware of parrots that you cannot even go near because they will just ruin your day. There are many rewards of teaching your parrot some tricks. Aside from being able to boast of yourself as a good trainer, it will also keep the parrots confidence because he will be able to entertain well your friends and family members. You can even let him join contests that will further enhance his ability. Most of all, you will be getting satisfied of his and your performance.

Teaching tricks to a parrot is like teaching tricks to your dog pet. The rule of thumb still applies. You do not have to apply force unto him because it will never cause any good to him. Instead, you can use rewards like giving your pet his favorite food when he gets the perfect trick in the given time.

Let's start with the basics. The first trick that is usually taught is how to STEP-UP. To teach your bird this trick, you need to show him how to do it by standing on the stand yourself. Most trainers instruct their pets by moving their finger in the bird and gently pressing their pointer finger on the lower stomach of the bird. Then the word STEP-UP is repeated all over again. Then you have the TURN AROUND trick. While on the stand, let your parrot look at a "his favorite thing" on the front and slowly turn it around at eye level so he will b able to turn his body too. Do this and repeat the same words all over again.

There are other many tricks that are available for a parrot to learn. But the two which are mentioned are often the best ones to teach a young parrot. In doing the tricks and teaching the pet, as an owner, you should keep in mind that unlike humans, parrots do not have the capacity to say "no" or "Im tired". Thus, you need to be sensitive on the parrots span of attention. If you observe that the parrot is not already giving you the attention that you have earlier, stop the session and give him the treat that he deserves.
