Ways to Stop Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating brings shame and embarrassment to those affected. Imagine sweating heavily in an air conditioned room or finding yourself waking up all drenched even though you don't have a blanket on and a fan is blowing at you. It is not life threatening but it can cause shame and social trauma especially if you find yourself sweating in front of a group of people.

Here are several methods worth trying to stop excessive sweating:

Antiperspirants- they come in many forms like roll on, stick and powder. Most antiperspirants are available over the counter and are effective to stop excessive sweating especially in the underarm area.

Doctor prescribed antiperspirants- a more powerful antiperspirant than those available over the counter. It contains Aluminum chloride hexahydrate.

Prescribed Oral medications - for those who specifically experiences excessive facial and hand sweating. Anticholinergic medications are prescribed to reduce and stop this occurrence. Most side effects include blurred vision and feeling of dryness in the mouth.

Lontophoresis - is an older method to stop excessive sweating. An electric current is passed through the skin using tap water. It does not cause pain and its effect is not for long term. The patient will need to undergo several sessions a week.

Botox treatment- although botox is commonly used for aesthetic purposes it is also used to stop excessive sweating in the armpits. However it is not proven effective for sweating of the hands and feet.

There are also many natural ways to control sweating. You can try putting baking soda under your armpits then wash it after 20-30 minutes. You will see that the baking soda works to absorb the moisture. Remember to shave first and wash before trying this procedure as it will not be effective.
