The reason why most start-up businesses fail is because they do not take the time in the beginning to do the proper research into their business idea to determine if it will be profitable or not. Many people set up a business thinking it is a great idea and find out the hard away that it was not a good idea at all. The key component that many aspiring entrepreneurs miss out on or do poorly is market research. Market research is very important as it has huge influence on whether your business idea will be profitable or not.

The main reason that you set up a business is to make a profit. Of course there are other reasons such as providing a quality product or service however, without a profit your business will be short- lived. The first thing you need to determine if you want to do set up a business is to find out a market that is profitable to enter. Many people make the mistake of creating a product and service and then try and find a market for it. That is a high risk game with a high likelihood of failure. Before you develop a product or service you first need to identify if there is a market for it. If there is a potential market this is a good sign but this is not enough of reason to start a business.

You need to determine if the market has money to spend and if there are many other businesses in the same market that you will have to compete with. If you find that there are many competitors in the market this could mean that you will need to take longer to establish your business. If there are many competing products then you need to look at how to make yours unique otherwise, if it is the same as everyone else's you will find it more difficult to sell. Therefore, before you start your business make sure you take the time to do your market research as this will help you avoid making costly mistakes later on.
