Smoking cessation

Understanding the vastness of the universe is created by observing the wonders of nature, seeing the beauty of a sunrise or sunset, watching the rain or snow fall, seeing the beauty of all things that grow. Deep within you is your recognition on some level that there is something beyond this life and someone beyond this world. Ecclesiates 3:11 '...He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.'

Bless the Obstacles and Keep Moving

In the beginning of any venture, there seems to be giant obstacles along the path. You will feel the most challenged and encounter the steepest climb while you are still unsure of your power and understanding of the task at hand.

Beginning a venture means to bring about change or create something, which is a new experience. In the physical world change occurs only when obstacles or status quo is moved from its place. When you pretend you are not responsible for what you are creating in your life you are choosing to accept what you do not want. The first step in creating is to accept responsibility for what is and what you desire. It is not your parents', the boss's, or God's responsibility. You are driving your own bus and you are the one who is in control of your life.

This is a period of undoing old thinking. It is an opportunity for you to prepare for pop quizzes in your daily life. You have the opportunity to decide if you will be non-resistant or if you will revert to the old pattern gravitational pull of the past.

These are the moments you need to be wise and work through the obstacles instead of being resistant or quitting - giving up. Bless the obstacles and keep moving toward that which you desire. Over time your course becomes more direct and easier to navigate. With perseverance and practice you will recognize an obstacle before it comes into full force and you will master how to maneuver around, over, through, under it.

A calorie is a measure of heat. It is the amount of heat necessary to raise the temperature of water by one degree centigrade. When we speak of calories in food, we are talking about a measure of the energy-producing value of a specific food.

Someone able to maintain a certain weight consistent has achieved a precise balance between the number of calories eaten and the number of calories burned through a combination of metabolic and physical activity.

For example, if you take in 2,400 calories of food and burn off 2,400 calories throughout the day, your body weight will remain constant. But, if you eat 2,400 calories each day and burn off only 2,300, you will have 100 calories left over. Those excess calories will be stored as fat in the fat cells of your body until they are needed. One hundred calories doesn't sound like much. But if you were to do this for 35 days it would amount to 3,500 calories.

Physiologists have calculated that 3, 500 calories constitute one pound of fat, if you accumulate one pound of fat every 35 days, by the end of the year you will have gained approximately 10 pounds.

Bad Breath Remedies - What Works?

We all know the embarrassment that halitosis can bring. Halitosis depends on many things including the body chemistry of the person that has it, but there are bad breath remedies that have been known to work for many people. Here are a few.

Chew mint leaves.

Chewing mint leaves may help freshen your breath if chewed at least once per day.

Drink a mixture of warm water, lemon juice and honey.

If you drink this mixture at night before bed and first thing in the morning it can help with your breath problems. Honey is believed also to have other health benefits.

Drinking unsweetened herbal tea.

Instead of drinking coffee first thing in the morning, try unsweetened herbal tea. It will keep your mouth from getting dry, a major cause of halitosis. Many herbal teas also do not have the acidity of coffee.

Oil of oregano.

When you drink water or juice try two to three drops of oil of oregano in it. Do this once per day.

Try using a mouthwash made with hydrogen peroxide 3% solution, baking soda, water and salt.

One of the main reasons some commercial mouthwashes don't work long term is that they are made with alcohol which causes the mouth to dry out and dry mouth is a major cause of halitosis.

This solution is made with two parts water, one part hydrogen peroxide 3% solution along with a pinch of baking soda and salt. Use this mouthwash, do not drink it. This is said to be a very effective tool against bad breath.

Drink and gargle with lemon water.

Either squeeze a lemon into a glass of water or use bottled lemon juice. I drink a little lemon water every day. I believe it not only helps with mouth odor but also with digestive functions.

Floss and brush your teeth after every meal.

Practicing good oral hygiene will always help your breath and is just a good practice along with regular checkups with your dentist.

Eat an apple.

Some people believe that eating an apple helps to cleanse your mouth and remove some of the harmful bacterial that are the major cause of halitosis. You also get the additional health benefits of eating good food.

Brush your teeth with baking soda.

Dip your wet toothbrush into the baking soda and brush your teeth with it. You can also mix approximately one teaspoon of baking soda with a glass of water and rinse your mouth. Again don't swallow the mixture rinse you mouth with it.

Water and lots of it.

Bacteria and food particles accumulate throughout the day if you are unable to brush your teeth. A good way to wash some of that away is to drink plenty of water. It also helps with your saliva flow and keeps the rest of your body hydrated.
