ACN says that its customers save money on services that they are already purchasing. Their Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VOIP service, allows people to talk over a broadband internet connection. This technology is less expensive than traditional or fiberoptic phone services. They also have a video phone whereby users can see and hear each other, provided they both have a similar device.
Like most multilevel marketing (MLM) companies, sales for this company are generated primarily by independent contractor sales agents known as Independent representatives. Representatives report that the company discourages cold calling and "selling." They encourage their reps to sell to their "warm" market-meaning friends and family. They also stress the importance of teaching those "sold" customers to then do the same in return with their own friends and family. This form of network marketing reduces advertising costs, and depends largely upon word-of-mouth endorsement. Additionally, the company recently secured an agreement with Mr. Donald Trump to publicly endorse and promote their services. Such a high-level endorsement may be an industry first.

Commission on a monthly service bill of $50 would be fifty cents. If you have fifty such customers, you would earn $25 per month. That comes to $300 per year. Compare this to the reported average income for Amway distributors, which is $40 per month. Neither is very impressive.

As a business opportunity, however, it appears to be lacking when compared with other business models today. Certainly some distributors at the top of the heap make big incomes; but it's difficult to see how the majority of distributors can do much better than to just break even.
