It can be very frustrating to begin an exercise or fitness program and run into what seems like a brick wall. This can come in the form of schedule conflicts that get in the way of your routine. But if you really want to get fit you know it's important to find a way around these obstacles. In order to help you reach a higher level of fitness, we will be covering some ways to overcome some of the common obstacles people often run into.

Oddly enough, one of the most common obstacles to starting or sticking with a fitness program is that you don't feel fit enough! Since the point of exercise is to improve your condition, this doesn't make sense, but it still deters some people. Starting to exercise when you're not in the best shape can provoke anxiety in many people. Some people try exercising and are discouraged when they find how easily they tire. The truth is, almost everyone can exercise, but you have to begin at the right place, no matter how basic. Your doctor can advise you about what type of exercise is appropriate if you have any illness or serious condition. If you feel out of shape, you might want to start walking regularly, as this is something you can begin as slowly as you want, and increase as you get fitter. Eventually, plateaus happen to everyone who participates in any type of exercise. Getting past a certain number of miles may seem impossible for runners, for example. For those that lift weights, you may be able to lift only a certain amount. Making even minor changes to your routine is the best way to get past this obstacle. By exercising your body in a slightly different manner, you can often get past your limitations. It's important to know that you still benefit from the regular exercise even when you seem to be stuck at a certain level.

Do you have an illness, injury or some long term health challenge that makes it hard to participate in a fitness program? The fact is, there are so many types of exercises you can do, it's likely that you can find a way around any physical limitations you might have. As an example, those without use of their legs can still exercise their upper bodies.

If you have a heart condition that doesn't allow you to do strenuous exercises, you can still go for walks or do gentle exercises in water. Get help tailoring a fitness program for your specific needs from your doctor or a a fitness trainer.

Many people only exercise irregularly and find that they can't make good progress this way. The way to overcome this issue is to insert your exercise sessions into your weekly schedule as activities you will definitely do. If you're going to run, lift weights or take a dance class, you have to make it a regular activity, not something you only do when the mood strikes you. Ideally, you should consider your fitness program as an essential part of your life, so you don't be tempted to skip sessions. Many people are more consistent about watching their favorite TV program than exercising, and if this describes you, you need to examine your priorities and place fitness higher on the list.
