The symptoms of type 2 Diabetes should be taken very seriously since these can lead to more serious health conditions. Typically the patient will experience a dry mouth, more thirst, an increase in hunger and more headaches, blurred vision and need to urinate. These symptoms also suggest that the person may be prone to heart disease and should call a doctor right away.

More thirst indicates that there is a buildup of sugar in the bloodstream. The body is pulling fluid from the tissues. The hunger is caused by the low energy that the organs and muscles are experiencing. They are not receiving the sugar from the bloodstream since there is a lack of enough insulin required to do this.

The weight is indicative of the need for the body to tap into other sources of fuel that is stored in the muscle and fat. Sugar deprived cells will cause the individual to be irritable and in need of sleep. They will also notice that they are getting more infections on a regular basis. Dark patches on the skin will also indicate a resistance to insulin.

Type two diabetes is often not diagnosed until they are already experiencing complications with their health. Most people who have this category of illness often do not know that they have it. It takes several years for this kind of diabetes to manifest itself. The statistics indicate that twenty-four million American adults and children have diabetes yet there are millions who do not know that they have it.

Patients will need to be tested for this illness. The quickest and easiest test is the fasting plasma glucose test where the patient cannot eat food for 8 hours. The glucose level for the blood will be determined. When normal blood sugar levels for fasting patients is 70-100 mg/dL the diabetic will measure 126mg/dL or even more. These are early signs that the individual has problems with producing insulin.

The second test that can be performed is the casual plasma glucose test where the patient is not required to fast. When the patient is found to have a glucose level greater than 200 mg/dL they may be in the early stages of the type two blood sugar disease. This type of illness comes about when the body resists insulin or when the pancreas does not produce enough of it. Overweight inactive individuals are more prone to this condition.

The pancreas produces the hormone called insulin when people eat food. Insulin enables sugar to enter cells so the level of sugar will become less in the bloodstream. The pancreas in turn will produce less insulin. The glucose is produced in the liver where it is stored. Virtually no insulin is produced with type 1 diabetes so that this is a more serious form of the disease.

The symptoms of type 2 diabetes need to be heeded since they indicate a problem with insulin. The doctor should test the individual for their blood sugar level. Early detection will help to arrest further progression of the disease. Not paying attention to the symptoms is taking the real risk of further compromising the health of the individual.
