Colocation - Should I Opt For A High Spec Server?

Providing hosting options for sole traders and smaller organizations is cheap and easy with the colocation service. If these companies are looking for a number of benefits that certain bigger internet technology departments are exposed to, they can do so cheaply and cost-efficiently. While local businesses and individual traders often struggle to come up with the required resources to host a private high capacity server, less expensive opportunities are essential. A popular and cheaper option is collocation.

What small businesses can do, if they choose to go for hosting colocation, is place their server in another company's rack, renting it for a small amount of money. In this way, the small company shares someone else's bandwidth. And the individual or small business' machine is either physically set up in the provider's rack, or is renting one of the provider's machines and works through that.

After this has all been arranged and set up correctly, the business it given its own IP address. This allows the use of bandwidth and a significant increase in power. Following this process a small business enables itself full access to the rack of the provider. All the benefits of bandwidth can then be fully enjoyed without exceptions.

Among the many benefits that come with this kind of web hosting is the price. For example, a high speed bandwidth is available at a lower price than a limited speed DSL line. This understandably makes colocation a cheaper option for small businesses and starting companies.

Apart from this, colocation servers come with better protection. If for any reason, the power is cut off or any other type of problem occurs, a power generator is activated and stops the websites from going down. Also everything is constantly being saved, and backup power is included in the rental fee, so no data is ever lost.

Often, when a problem occurs with a standard DSL line, there is no way of knowing when it will be dealt with, and it is left up to the provider. An advantage that comes with using a high capacity server, however, is the fact that the local company owns the machinery, and is responsible for making any necessary repairs and getting it up and running as soon as possible.

It is also true that the software belongs, and is in the hands of the business. This means that the provider is not in charge of any necessary installations, or access to tools. The local establishment is left to its own devices.

The last convenient and clear advantage is that the server cannot be affected if the business decides to get up and move one. Instead it will remain the same and operate normally without changes. This helps in terms of convenience and the saving of time.

High capacity is certainly not needed in all situations. For example, for bloggers and certain other individuals, the power is simply not necessary. But for small companies who require both speed and power, the use of a colocation server tends to be the smartest option.
